Superintendent

Hello Pewamo-Westphalia Community,

I would like to take this time to introduce myself to the Pewamo-Westphalia Pirates family. My name is

Richard Dunham and I am honored to be serving as the Interim Superintendent for the Pewamo-Westphalia Community Schools for the balance of the 2025-26 school year.

I am a 1973 graduate of Lansing Waverly High School. I was able to attend Central Michigan University on a football scholarship where I Majored in Physical Education and minored in U.S. History. I was also the starting fullback on the 1974 NCAA Division II National Championship Football Team.

After graduation from CMU in 1977 I was hired by Eaton Rapids Public Schools as a Junior High Physical Education/History teacher as well as Science and Computer Programming for 6 years and 17 years as an Elementary Physical Education Teacher. During my tenure in Eaton Rapids I was also the Boys and Girls Head Track Coach, 9th grade, Junior Varsity and Varsity Head Football Coach as well as the Head Swimming Coach. From 1994-1999 I was an Assistant Football Coach at Albion college. In 1994 Albion won the Division III Football National Championship as well as Conference Championships 5 of the 6 years that I was at Albion. I decided to go into Administration in the spring of 2000 and was fortunate to be hired by the Byron Area Schools as an Elementary Principal. I spent 3 years as the Principal in Byron before being hired as the Superintendent with the Laingsburg Community Schools for 6 years. I retired from the Laingsburg Community Schools in 2009 and started doing Interim work in 2015.

I have been married to my Junior High sweetheart for 51 years. We have two daughters, two granddaughters and three great grandchildren. In my spare time I like to golf, hunt from time to time and play my Baby Grand piano and one of my 7 Ukulele's.

If you see me at any of the PW events please stop and say “Hi.” It has not taken me very long to realize what a special place Pewamo-Westphalia Community Schools is.
