Student Activities

Within PWMHS, we lean upon our students to lead the way and personify our Champions Culture - with the goal being to support and champion all aspects of the Triple A... Academics, Arts, and Athletics. As determined by our Student Voice platform, this is done in three ways:

- We will foster positivity via character development, empathy, and mindfulness.

- We will form connections between educators and students to improve inclusivity and communication.

- We will promote problem-solving and critical thinking among the student body and staff.

Over the years, PWMHS has thrived with all three facets of the Triple A, but continue to evaluate, add, and strengthen programming and opportunities. Listed below are each of our non-athletic STUDENT ACTIVITIES for HIGH SCHOOL students...

Co-Curricular Activities

Band 6-12

Band is an activity for all students - backgrounds, abilities, and interests, etc. Students can start band as soon as 6th Grade - both within our Middle-High School and at St Mary Elementary School - but are also able to be a part of our Middle School Band (7-8th Grades) and High School Band (9-12th Grades). Whether a student is looking for another co-curricular to be a part of, a new group of friends, to develop a new skill, or to experience the joys of learning and playing music, PWMHS Band is a great activity.

High School Band students will attend Band Camp each July for one week to learn their marching show for that year. Students will march their show at home football games (on top of playing in the stands) and will perform their marching show to be judged various off-campus exhibitions. Other commitments include roughly three to five concerts per year... Fall, Winter, Spring, Commencements, and at our annual Memorial Day performance. For more information, please CLICK HERE.

Multimedia & PDubTV

Multimedia is a class for students that want to express their creative side by learning and creating photos and videos. Students will learn to operate DSLR cameras manually and basic composition. Topics include photography, cinematography, lighting, video editing, and photo editing. Student creations will be posted online and submitted to our film festival in the Spring.

"Multimedia has had a huge impact on not only my time during high school, but on my whole life in general. I will be able to take all of the skills I have learned from this class and use them in years to come. From taking the pictures and videos, to being in the pictures or videos, I have learned so many things I wouldn’t have without this class. Multimedia helps students show their interests through videos and pictures - and also makes students more confident about themselves being in front of the camera. Not only is one learning about how a camera works and about all of the lighting and techniques that go into taking photos / editing / making videos, but students are able to enjoy creating this special kind of art in an extremely fun way!"

Robotics 6-12

While there are high school and middle school components to the platform, Robotics is a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) platform where students are challenged to “create, engineer, and inspire” under the VEX Educational Robotics platform. Beyond science and engineering principles, “VEX encourages creativity, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving among groups.” PWMHS Robotics members work in teams of 2 to 5 students to build and program robots to compete throughout the state in VEX Robotics competitions – with practices / meets taking place between September and February.

“Participating in Robotics has been one of the most enriching experiences I could ask for during my time at PWMHS. From designing and building robots to writing code and testing strategies, every step of the process has been a hands-on learning adventure. It’s one thing to learn about engineering and programming in class, but it’s something completely different - and way more fun - to see your ideas come to life on the competition field. Through Robotics, I’ve developed real-world skills in problem-solving, teamwork, and perseverance, and I’ve grown more confident in my ability to tackle complex challenges.

What makes Robotics in Michigan especially enjoyable is the strong sense of community and friendly competition. Every tournament feels like a reunion of passionate, creative teams all striving to do their best while still forging unique and supportive relationships. Some of my favorite memories include tweaking our work to attempt perfection, celebrating a perfect autonomous run, and laughing through all the unexpected robot mishaps. It’s this combination of intense focus, collaboration, and pure fun that makes Robotics so special. Being part of this program has not only shaped my future in STEM but has also given me unforgettable friendships and a love for engineering that I’ll carry with me forever.”

Science Olympiad 6-9

Science Olympiad is a national, team-based competition for middle and high school students focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Students compete in various science-related events - demonstrating their knowledge and skills in diverse fields like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science. Students work in teams to prepare for and compete in events such as “Disease Detectives”, “Air Trajectory”, “Tower”, “Crime Busters”, “Mission Possible”, etc.  Although events may change year to year, many are run annually.

“When I first started Science Olympiad, I was totally confused. I thought that everyone had to learn and compete in all of the events. After two weeks, I felt like a failure, but pressed forward and stayed committed to both my individual and group projects. My focus was on the ‘Wright Stuff’ where I built four model planes – each one better than the last. When I finally reached 1 min 15 sec of air time, I was exhilarated. Participating in this project has inspired me – sparking more interest in Physics, Engineering, and Aviation.

It's hard to know what you like until you try it. There were a lot of students in our class that initially rolled their eyes when we started to learn about options and dive into projects… including me! However, all of us involved with Science Olympiad not only learned a ton, we had fun doing it – and we certainly don’t roll our eyes anymore!”

Stage Arts 6-12

Our PWMHS Theater and Stage Arts programming has been around for decades – putting on amazing large ensemble performances throughout the years such as Oklahoma (1992-93), Grease (2001-02), High School Musical (2014-15), and Shrek (2024-25). With both middle school and high school components, this platform offers students the opportunity to take classes that teach acting, singing, and / or dancing, put on a full-length musical each year, show off their artistic side within our stage crew (set / prop design and construction), or learn how to operate advanced equipment as a member of the tech team.

“Being a part of Theater is, in my belief, one of the best things I have done for myself and for my future success after graduation. Being on stage or within tech crew gives one a unique ability to express and be themselves without any judgement. We’re all here for the same thing… to entertain and to have fun doing so together.

You’ll never know how much you will love Theater until you try. There’s plenty of ways to be involved that require and train you on different skill sets. Uniquely, due to joining Theater, I am now better at presenting in class, writing essays in English, and public speaking.

The Theater community is unique - where one person’s success is everyone’s success; we all work together to be our best. Joining Theater has been one of the best decisions I could have made. The platform has given me my closest friends, the memories made and the relationships forged will last a lifetime, and the experience has prepared me for the ‘stage’ of the world ahead.”

Extra-Curricular Activities

E-Sports 6-12

PWMHS’ E-Sports program is made up of students who compete in competitive video gaming. Participating within the Michigan High School E-Sports Federation’s (MIHSEF) organization, the mission “is to provide an empowering, educational and competitive varsity e-sports environment for students while promoting the importance of preparation, communication, sportsmanship, collaboration, and the ability to process success and failure.”

Playing games such as Mario Kart, Valorant, Madden, FIFA, Fortnite, Super Smash Brothers, etc, league matches are held online against other schools once per week. With participants thriving on teamwork, communication and strategic thinking in a fast-paced and fun gaming environment, the sport is growing fast and PWMHS is excited to be part of the movement!

“Being involved in E-Sports has helped me grow significantly as a person – allowing me to further develop my leadership skills and grow in my confidence. E-Sports helps with useful life skills like teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking – and I furthermore enjoy being a part of the program because I am able to use my talents for a greater purpose.

Getting to participate in the Michigan High School E-Sports Federation (MiHSEF) Fall and Spring State Finals has opened new doors for me. I've been able to meet a lot of new people that have different interests. Consequently, I would recommend E-Sports to students that are also interested in gaming, because it offers a competitive experience and new friendships along the way.”

Quiz Bowl 9-12

Participating within the Mid-Michigan Academic League (MMAL), our PWHS Quiz Bowl program is a high school-based organization that feels like “4 on 4 Jeopardy”. Within the MMAL, PWHS sees and competes against a number of neighboring school districts – so there is plenty of camaraderie and sportsmanship within competition. There are no parameters or prerequisites to joining – everyone is welcome! With questions ranging from pop culture to sports to current events (etc), all participants are necessary and valued.

“Being part of Quiz Bowl throughout high school has been one of the most rewarding and surprisingly fun experiences I've had. It’s an incredible way to challenge yourself academically – diving into topics like science, history, literature, pop culture, and more, all while racing the clock to buzz in with the right answer. I’ve learned so much just from preparing for tournaments; the thrill of getting a tough question right or pulling an obscure fact out of nowhere is unmatched. Quiz Bowl helped me build quick thinking, teamwork, and confidence, especially during high-pressure matches.

But what really makes Quiz Bowl special is the camaraderie and sheer goofiness that comes with it. From inside jokes during practices to post-tournament snack runs, there’s a lightheartedness that balances out the brainy side of the game. Some of the funniest moments of high school happened while crammed in a van on the way to a competition or during late-night study sessions where everything became hilarious. It’s this mix of intense focus and nerdy fun that made Quiz Bowl not just a club, but a family - and something I’ll never forget.”
